Principal's Corner
From the Desk of Mr. Steven Smith, Principal
Dear Lakenheath MS Families,
As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, I want to take a moment to share my excitement for a strong start of another school year. It continues to be an honor to serve as principal of Lakenheath Middle School, and I am proud of the energy, dedication, and sense of community that define our school.
I am excited about the transition to our new 7-period school day. This change provides expanded opportunities for student learning, increased flexibility in scheduling, and a more dynamic educational experience. We believe this new structure will support both academic excellence and the diverse interests of our students.
Throughout the year, our 8th graders will participate in the PSAT, our 6th graders will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CoGAT) assessment, and all 6th and 7th graders will take our end of year DCAS summative assessments in the spring. These opportunities will help us better understand and support each student’s academic journey, ensuring they are prepared for future challenges and successes.
We are also implementing the DoWEA wide Personal Portable Electronic Mobile Device (PPEMD) guidance for PPEMD access and use across all DoWEA schools to minimize distractions in the learning environment.
RISE to Excellence
At Lakenheath MS, we continue to live by our RISE expectations—Respect, Integrity, Self-Discipline, and Excellence. I encourage all students and families to remain engaged and committed to these values that make our school community so strong. Together, we will continue to foster a positive environment where every student can thrive.
